The Drama League, founded in 1916, is a home for stage directors and a platform for dialogue with and between the audiences they inspire. On May 17th Bonnie Comley, the current Board President, hosted a dinner at Sardi’s for the fourteen 2023 Directors Project Fellows to sit with a group of award-winning theater professionals to welcome, share experiences and offer support. The Drama League’s Artistic Director, Gabriel Steliain Shanks, and Executive Director, Bevin Ross, kicked off the conversations between the directors and esteemed guests.
The fourteen 2023 Drama League Directors Project recipients include NJ Agwuna, Héctor Alvarez, Nehprii Amenii, Michelle Chan, Justin Emeka, Lyam B. Gabel, Diego González, Nadia Guevara, Alex Keegan, Ann Kreitman, Sanhawich Meateanuwat, Vanessa Ogbuehi, Ibi Owolabi and. EJ Soto. The Drama League Directors Project initiative offers a broad portfolio of acclaimed Fellowships, Residencies, Assistantships, Exchanges, and Learning Opportunities for directors at all stages.

Sharing their wisdom at the dinner were guests; Tony Award Winning Producers Irene Gandy, Stewart F. Lane, Willette Klausner, Rose Caiola, Tony nominees Kumiko Yoshii, Townsend Teague, Lamar Richardson, Manny Klausner, and other award-winning theater makers Nilan, Riki Kane Larimer, Catalin Stelian, Andrew Coopman, and Barbara Von Borstel.
In the heart of Times Square, Sardi's has been a favorite restaurant in the Broadway district for 100 years. In 2016, Sardi’s Max Klimavicius unveiled one of the famous Sardi’s caricatures of Comley and Lane to join the walls of the famed eatery!
